With the outbreak of war in the in the snowbound environment of Greek-Albanian border, it quickly became clear that was not foreseen by the Greek HQ’s some sort of cover to hide the soldiers from enemy observation. The white long-cut sleeveless snow coverall was used. The coverall was worn over the basic field uniform and fastened with cloth tapes at hood, chest and waist level. The tapes allowed the hood to be loosely fixed around the helmet and the rest around the body. The garment was made of various types of cotton material. Whilst this garment afforded excellent freedom of movement to the wearer it did have one drawback in that the uniform sleeves (for ease of manufacture) were uncovered. This caused problems with marksmen of the enemy. Among the Greek soldiers, the nicknamed for the snow cover was «fakir».
