The basic Greek Army winter uniform item was the Greatcoat mod.1938. The harsh weather conditions of the Albanian front forced many troops to be issued with winter clothing consisted of sheepskin coats worn over the field uniform and rarely under the overcoat. The raw material stood near in the field kitchens where sheep hides were sold to the soldiers for three cartons of cigarettes.
