The leather belt with two rows of holes comes its design from the period immediately after the decade of 20 when the width of the belt,  provided better body holding during the long arduous marches. Photographic evidence shows earlier time use of the double row belt by the Greek Army during the Asia Minor Campaign. The belt was made of light colored leather and the buckle was from blackened steel. The old soldiers purchased brass buckles from commercial... to shine and stand out the girls eyes. The leather darkens with time and reached their tone from dark brown to almost black. The maintenance was done with animal grease and the material remained in the Army after the release of the soldier. In 1938 the rules stated that ..belts, y-straps and bandoliers  ... came from the Army.
