On 17th June 1936, the Reichsfeuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed to the newly created position of Chief of the German Police in the Ministry of Interior-Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern, essentially gaining full control of all police services in Germany. Result of this appointment was the restructuring of the entire German police in a single body and new regulations were introduced to bring about uniformity in uniforms emblems and signs. One of the changes brought by the new regulation was the introduction of a label on the sleeve and the various branches of the police were special colors truppenfarbe for their separation. Orange truppenfarbe distinguished the Military Gendarmerie. Police in grades from Unterwachtmeister to Hauptwachtmeister, (equivalent to the army from Unteroffizier to Oberfeldwebel respectively) wore green, while the degrees of Polizei Meister to Oberst wore the insignia in bright silver and by Generalmajor to Generaloberst in gilt. Originally eagles in police sleeve worn by NCO includes the name of the site where they were placed, but the Regulation of 10th November 1941 abolished the name. The German police had the lowest rate Unterwachtmeister equivalent in the German army with the rank of Unteroffizier.
